Frequently asked questions

Q – What is Steritroxing?

A – Steritroxing is an advanced oxidation process that produces Free Radicals for the reduction of microorganisms and contaminants. Steritroxing is a safe and environmentally friendly alternative to toxic and corrosive chemical processes. For full information about Steritroxing, please click here.

Q - How does advanced oxidation work?

A - When ozone gas comes in contact with bacteria and other organic substances they are oxidised and killed. Ozone quickly reverts to its original form oxygen after the process is completed, making it an environmentally friendly alternative.

Q - How is Steritroxing achieved?

A - Steritroxing is harnessed and delivered through the Radical range of products. For full information about the range of Radical equipment, please click here [insert hyperlink to “Products” section of website]

Q – How effective is Steritroxing?

A – Steritroxing uses Hydroxyl Radicals to kill bacteria. These Free Radicals have an oxidising potential of 2.80. Compare this to the oxidising potential of 1.57 that Chlorine Dioxide delivers and you will immediately see the advantage of Steritroxing. The table below shows the oxidising potential of various reagents.

Q - What are the “raw materials” used in Steritroxing?

A – The process relies on the supply of air to generate Ozone (O3) and specially treated water droplets (H2O) as the main constituents of the vapour. These are combined to generate Hydrogen Peroxide Gas (H2O2) which releases a cascade of Hydroxyl (OH) free radicals.

Q - Is Steritroxing safe to use?

Completely, as long as some basic user guidelines are followed. As with many oxidising agents, prolonged exposure to high concentrations of the Steritroxing process can be harmful to humans.

Areas where the Steritroxing process is being applied must be enclosed and the process must be allowed to complete before workers re-enter the area. Fortunately, its short cycle makes this a manageable requirement.

With Steritroxing, there are no harmful chemicals to be stored (the raw ingredients are air and water). The systems control algorythms employ sophisticated failsafe devices to ensure complete control over all processes. This feature provides enhanced safety over chlorination or hydrogen peroxide systems emergency spills.

Q – Is Steritroxing environmentally friendly?

A – Yes. Unlike most other sanitising agents, Steritroxing contributes no negative environmental impact because it quickly and easily degrades into oxygen and water.

Q - Do we still need to clean/wash down before Steritroxing?

A –Steritroxing is NOT a replacement for good hygiene practices. All sites must be adequately cleaned down and degreased prior to use. Radical applies an unrivalled sanitising process enhancing bio-security.

Q - What is Steritroxing effective against?

A –Steritroxing has been independently proven to have an effective kill rate against a broad spectrum of bacteria and spoilage areas including:

  • Escherichia coli
  • Staphylococcus epidermidis
  • Staphylococcus aureus
  • Listeria
  • Enterococcus faecalis
  • Bacillus cereus
  • Pseudomonas

Q - Will Steritroxing affect my produce?

A - The only effect that you will notice is a positive one in the form of an extended storage life of vegetables, fruits and other perishable food products. It is recommended that food is removed from the area to be sanitised or at least covered.

Q - What are the installation requirements?

A source of compressed air and water are all that is required.
