RADICAL LAUNCH CLEANING IN PLACE SYSTEM

Radical has launched the Radical Cleaning in Place System (CIP), a revolutionary sanitiser for the drink processing industry, which delivers a highly effective, safe, low cost and environmentally friendly solution to the long-term challenge of maintaining secure hygiene standards.

The Radical CIP system uses advanced oxidation, created by ozonated water, which effectively eradicates all living micro-organisms and potential contaminates from the surface of food or drink containers or products, avoiding the use of chemicals, and leaving no risk or taint or harmful residues.

The CIP system economically generates ozone for cleaning beverage, dairy, water and soft drinks plant pipe work, fillers, tanks and related equipment. The superiority of automated ozone CIP systems is demonstrated in four main areas: faster disinfection due to the high oxidation power of ozone; shorter cycle times as there are no harmful chemicals to rinse away; reduced operating costs; and repeatable and reliable non-chemical treatments. The technology is also extremely environmentally-friendly as the biocide is generated from, and quickly breaks down back into, just oxygen and water.

Radical developed a bespoke bottle rinse system for a leading soft drink manufacturer after proving the complete efficacy and safety of the technology through extensive factory trials. The tests showed that the Radical process was significantly more effective than their existing chemical process, and that the improved bottle sanitisation supported the removal of preservatives from the product. Equally important, ozonated water naturally breaks down into water and oxygen meaning that the bottles do not require a final water only rinse stage.

Mark Fielding, Director of Radical, said: “Our technology has already proven itself as a natural, biologically effective terminal sanitiser in a wide variety of food applications. Using ozonated water in beverage applications is quite common in the United States and we are delighted to be working with our client, to establish the technology in the UK.”

Factory trials with other manufacturers have shown the improved performance of the Radical system versus Peracetic Acid has significantly reduced biocidal activity and improved shelf life.”
